welcome to rome!

and grazie to all for your patience + forbearance during what proved to be a rough introduction to the city.  il sciopero, the strike, is a time-honored tradition in italy, a familiar part of civic life here, but best not experienced on the day of arrival.  special complementi to those intrepid ones who joined the walk, our first in rome, from stazione termini to garbatella. bravi! a good topic for your initial blogpost, perhaps, strangers wandering through the city seeking their place within it…

since we passed some of the city’s most famous ancient monuments on our walk last night, the colosseum + domus aurea among them, you might find the following article from yesterday’s NYTimes of interest.
