Our route. . .

.

.

We venture outside Santa Maria della Pieta’s walls. . .

.
.
We pause, consider and conceptualize. . .

.

.

We intervene, conclude. . .

Our week at Santa Maria della Pieta enlightened us about the pain and isolation encountered by the patients. As the outside world was moving, interacting and networking, those admitted to the hospital were contained, not just within the gates, but within their respective assigned buildings. When we ventured out of the hospital, we witnessed this outside world firsthand: varied, unique, active and wonderful. The major dichotomy observed was stagnancy versus motion. . .physically, psychologically, emotionally and socially. So we created an inverted microcosm, where the inside (representing Santa Maria della Pieta) was lively and energetic, even though it was “enclosed” with materials of varying levels of transparency. The “outside” was the less desirable realm, where interaction was scarce, represented with single chairs positioned away from one another, scattered. The way inside/outside was difficult to find and difficult to maneuver, and the view varied based on a spectrum of transparencies. . .sound familiar?

This installation serves as a symbol of what we hope Santa Maria della Pieta can become in the near future: a place of culture and social interaction. The site we chose was that of the bocce court, which staff at the hospital monumentally created for the patients after throwing away the key which kept the patients inside. The place of that revolution became the place of our revolution. Our recreation of bocce with pine cones directed those within the space to a specific fabric used to construct it, where our journey was recreated in a manner relating to our experience: sketches, gallery-esque representations, interactive sensual reflections, etc.

We hope our impact was felt at Santa Maria della Pieta. We hope we changed its landscape. It changed us.

Also, can you peal out a simple line drawing section to go with the simple plan…directly under it? Thank you.

Beautiful collages and drawings. You may want to pull the text out of the drawings so they do not overlap- third set of images.

also consider some text explaining the last drawings- some descriptions under images.

Additionally, how do you draw time? How do you understand the progress of the bocce court and also your experience of the walks with Lorenzo.
**What is the time frame? (time line) ***Is it cyclical- consider a circle diagram of 365 days for example, seasons. What were the socio-political issues? Are they truly linear or more cyclical based on the thought of the day regarding mental health theory and socialism.

Great work! The line drawings are very effective and elegant. Bravo.
The two images are also more effective- one more abstract, the other more actual. Consider pushing the abstract/hand even father- reduce color pallattes even more. The symmetry is a little strange that it is only broken with the text justification and the number seems a little odd as centered.
Please try to upload trace over and rework the mappa mundo. In the future consider leaving the edges of the photo and not erasing / fading out the edges….no need to erase the hand of the technique.
**Next, as discussed, try to document the built construct, and express its concepts with perhaps full images, expressing concepts like the trasparency and lightness of the white fabric and the abstract juxtaposition of the bright green fabric with the natural environment. Also, how do you document the uncovering of the ground plane and the history WHY the bocce court was installed- how it relates to the opening and transition of the hospital patients.
Again great work and great improvement.
